Es war einmal ein Mädchen
Und das zwei Knaben liebt.
Der eine war ein Schäfer,
Der andere ein Kaufmannssohn.

Es tut sein Mutter fragen,
Wen es wohl nehmen soll.
Lass Du den Schäfer fahren
Und nimm den Kaufmannssohn.
Der Schäfer, der tät weinen,
Als Abschied von ihr nahm.
„Der Teufel soll Dich holen
An Deinem Hochzeitstag.“

Es waren kaum drei Wochen,
Da ging die Hochzeit an.
Da kam ein Herr geritten,
Und setzt sich oben an.

„Was soll´n wir ihm einschenken,
Ein Glas mit rotem Wein?“
„Man darf mir nichts einschenken,
Ich schenk mir selber ein.“

„Eine Bitt´ will ich wohl haben,
Will tanzen mit der Braut.“
Er schwenkt sie dreimal rundherum
Zum Fenster fahr´n sie raus.

Er fasst sie an die Arme,
zerbricht ihr Hals und Bein
Er riss ihr beide Augen aus,
Die Zunge aus dem Hals.

Da drunten in dem Garten,
Dort steht ein Weidenbaum.
Der Kopf ist abgeschnitten
Die Zung´ liegt nebendran.
